Alpla acquires rigid plastic plant of Amcor in India

Alpla Grouping, packaging solutions and recycling specialist is acquiring a facility in Western India for the production of preforms for PET bottles from the packaging company Amcor. The contracting parties have agreed not to disembalm whatsoever details of the contract all the same.

Alpla took over the institute for rigid plastics from the global packaging specialist Amcor with effect from 28 September 2020. The plant in Alandi, W India, is in the immediate vicinity of the metropolis of Pune. It manufactures preforms for the production of PET bottles for the beverage manufacture. The customers include Coca-Cola and the Indian dairy company Amul.

With this takeover, Alpla is expanding its core business in the PET area in India. Alpla will take over all fifty employees. Vagish Dixit, managing managing director Alpla Bharat, said, 'The newly caused facility near Pune will primarily assist the states to better serve the market in the Western Region of Bharat and further expand existing partnerships with customers such as Coca-Cola.'

By signing the New Plastics Economy's Global Delivery in October 2018, ALPLA pledged to achieve certain goals by 2025 — all packaging solutions are to be fully recyclable, and the volume of recycled materials is to increment to 25 % of the total materials used. A sum of EUR 50 million (approximately Rs 430 crore) has been earmarked for Alpla's expansion of its recycling activities.
